Chairholder: Professor Georges Beaudoin

The research chair is led by Professor Georges Beaudoin, an internationally renowned expert in the geology of mineral deposits, mineral chemistry, and the use of indicator minerals in mineral exploration. After receiving a B.Sc and M.Sc in Geology from Laval University, Professor Beaudoin earned a Ph.D in Geology from the University of Ottawa for conducting research on the geochemistry of a silver-lead-zinc deposit in southeast British Columbia. He then completed his postdoctoral studies at the Geological Survey of Canada in Ottawa. Professor Beaudoin has been a metallogeny professor at the Department of Geology and Geological Engineering at Laval University since 1993. His research is largely focused on the metallogeny of ore deposits, and has recently been developing new mineral exploration methods using indicator minerals. Georges Beaudoin is also the director of DIVEX innovation network, which consists of researchers and geology students  from seven Quebec universities. His scientific interests are vast and range from archeology to carbon sequestration in mine tailings. Professor Beaudoin is the editor of Mineralium Deposita, a leading international journal on mineral deposits, and is also the vice president of the Society for Geology Applied to Mineral Deposits (SGA).
