Over 95% Canada’s surface was covered by glaciers during the Pleistocene. The use of indicator minerals in glacial sediments is becoming an increasingly popular exploration method used for exploring vast areas that are likely to host large mineral resources. Gold is an important commodity and is a metal of high interest in the mineral exploration and mining industries. The development of new methodologies using indicator minerals will provide new tools to help with the discovery of new mineral resources. The methods that will be developed in this initiative will rely mainly on grain shapes and surface textures, while also characterizing the chemical and isotopic compositions of indicator minerals.
