Chairholder: Professor Georges Beaudoin

The Chair is headed by Professor Georges Beaudoin, an internationally recognized expert in mineral deposit geology, mineral chemistry and the use of indicator minerals in mineral exploration. After receiving a B.Sc. and M.Sc. in geology from Laval University, Professor Beaudoin obtained a Ph.D. from the University of Ottawa on the geochemistry of silver-lead-zinc veins in southeastern British Columbia. He then completed a postdoctoral fellowship in the laboratories of the Geological Survey of Canada in Ottawa. Since 1993, he has been a professor of metallogeny in the Department of Geology and Geological Engineering at Laval University. His research focuses on metallogeny and, in recent years, he has been developing exploration methods based on indicator minerals. Georges Beaudoin is the director of the DIVEX innovation network, which brings together researchers and their students in mineral exploration from seven Quebec universities. His scientific interests are broad and range from archaeology to carbon sequestration in mine tailings. Professor Beaudoin is a member of the Institut Hydro-Québec en environnement, développement et société. He is also the editor of Mineralium Deposita, one of the leading international scientific journals on mineral deposits, and the vice-president of the Society for Applied Geology of Mineral Deposits (SGA).
